GARLAND OFFICIALLY BECOMES A HOG

Arkansas men's basketball wrapped up the early signing period with the signature of Little Rock Parkview guard Khalil Garland during a ceremony at the school Friday afternoon. Garland, 6-6, 190 pounds, inked with the Razorbacks over scholarship offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Connecticut, Memphis, Oregon, Texas A&M, UALR, Baylor and others. He admits his skill set was average during the early years before working on his game and seeing progress in the ninth grade. "I always wanted to play in my home state, and I finally got the chance to do it and I'm going to fulfill it," Garland said. Garland averaged 18 points and eight rebounds while leading the Patriots to the Class 6A state title as a junior. ESPN rates Garland the No. 12 small forward and No. 55 overall prospect. He said hard work made him into the player he is today. "I think a lot of people think it came easy for me," Garland said. "I really wasn't good when I started out playing basketball. I had to work hard day in and day out. My dad had a big part in that because he worked me out. He still works me out to this day. I just want to pay him back for all the hard work he's given me." He joins small forward Darious Hall, 6-6, 210 pounds, of Mills and El Dorado power forward Daniel Gafford, 6-11, 223, in the 2017 class. The Hogs have four commitments for the 2018 class: forward Reggie Perry, 6-10, 225 pounds, of Thomasville, Ga.; forward Ethan Henderson, 6-9, 190, of Little Rock Parkview; guard Isaiah Joe, 6-2, 160, of Fort Smith Northside; and guard Desi Sills, 6-1, 170, of Jonesboro. Sophomore point guard Justice Hill, 5-11, 160 pounds, of Little Rock Christian is committed to the Hogs for the 2019 class. Hill and the four juniors played for the 16-under Arkansas Hawks during the spring and summer. The three signees and five commitments have Razorback fans excited about the future. "The 2017 and 2018 classes really think that with the talent Arkansas already has and has coming in, we can make a deep push into the tournament," Garland said. "That's the major goal is to win a national championship."
