Rising 9th graders took advantage of three programs funded through Title I and Hall’s 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant this summer.
1. Art Across the Curriculum – Students were divided into three groups and rotated each week. Group 1 – Art/English Language Art. Students studied fables, created their own fable, and made a stop-motion video with characters made of clay or paper. Group 2 – Art/Math. Students studied Geometry and made individual string art creations. Each of the 3 groups contributed to a giant string art sculpture that will be on display in the 800 zone. Group 3 – Art/Science. Students studied the chemistry of crystals, growing the crystals, then using them to make watercolor paintings and 3-D models.
2. ESL Physical Science Credit Recovery – Students were able to recover credit for ESL Physical Science.
3. ESL Summer Institute – This marks the 11th year that Hall has offered the ESL Summer Institute to ELL students who attend the Hall High Newcomer Center. The three-week program provides reinforcement in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. This year’s theme was “The Game of Life.” Students learned about careers, budgeting, shopping, money, and other life skills through games, vocabulary, and art projects. Students from Henderson, Cloverdale, and Mabelvale attended.
